Money – we cannot live without it, we cannot get enough of it, we know it cannot buy us happiness or love, yet we still obsess about it. This week, in the final episode of the first series of Body Language Secrets, Dr Jack Lewis and friends investigate the psychology of money (8pm Sky 1 Mon 12th April; 8pm Sky 2 Sat 17th April). Whilst Peter and Anjula meet lottery winners, investigate attitudes to spending cash versus using credit cards and examine the body language of those with pots of money, Dr Jack tries his hand at trading on the stock exchange up a skyscraper in Canary Wharf and conducts an experiment on members of the public that reveals an unexpected influence of handling cash on thresholds of pain perception.

  1. Your final experiment revealed a very interesting concept. It appeared that those people who had been filling in a money related word quiz and counting out money were able to maintain their arm in icy water for longer than those who’d just done a non-money word quiz and had counted blanks. You said this shows that involvement with money hardens you to pain. I would go further to say that money had a stimulating effect on their motivation to perform well which led to their enhanced sense of invincibility.

  2. I have very much enjoyed watching episodes of body language secrets and would like to know when repeats will be shown. I am particularly interested in the money episode. Thank you
